Whether you’re looking to add insulation to existing walls/ceilings/floors, or you desire it’s soundproofing properties, we have the knowledge and tools to get it done right. Our product of choice for drill and fill applications is Weathershield cellulose insulation.
Why do we use Owens Corning Propink in attics but switch to cellulose for drill and fill applications?
There’s good reason for this. We have found that cellulose in an attic space, due to it’s physical properties, is able to become airborne rather easily, such as when someone abruptly opens or closes a door, creating a momentary negative pressure in the home and thus, drawing cellulose particulate in via miscellaneous drafts/holes between the living area and attic space. Though the particulate is thoroughly tested and quite harmless, it can be a nuisance to very sensitive people.
So why use cellulose at all?
The seemingly undesirable properties of cellulose actually give it a performance advantage when used in a fully enclosed cavity such as a wall, floor or a ceiling between floors. It’s fine “viscosity” allows it to behave like a liquid, while in motion, filling in every nook and cranny inside a cavity. At rest, cellulose returns to having the properties of a dense insulation. Our Propink attic insulation has evolved in leaps and bounds over the years to enhance it’s drill and fill performance and offer cellulose some stiff competition in drill and fill applications, but if it’s a closed/sealed cavity you’re filling up, cellulose still maintains a slight performance advantage.
